Off-Duty Clackamas County Jail Deputy Arrested on Multiple Charges by Oregon City Police

OREGON CITY, Oregon — An off-duty Clackamas County jail deputy was arrested Thursday on charges including strangulation and criminal mistreatment, according to law enforcement officials.

The Oregon City Police Department took 44-year-old Benjamin Lyman into custody on multiple charges, which include two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, two counts of strangulation, three counts of harassment, and one count of interfering with making a report. Lyman was initially booked into the Clackamas County Jail before being transferred to the Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held without bail.

The criminal investigation began in April when the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Oregon City police regarding an off-duty incident involving Lyman.

Lyman, who was employed as a jail deputy with the county, was placed on administrative leave following the notification, in accordance with sheriff’s office protocol. Further details regarding the specific circumstances of the off-duty incident have not been released by authorities.
