Sandersville Firefighter of the Year Arrested on Aggravated Child Molestation and Rape Charges

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — A Sandersville firefighter has been terminated from his position following his arrest this week on multiple felony charges, including aggravated child molestation and rape, according to authorities.

Evan Chambers, 23, was taken into custody on Monday and is currently being detained at the Washington County Jail without bond, Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran confirmed.

The criminal investigation began after law enforcement received a formal report regarding an incident that occurred in July 2023. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed the age of the victim or whether Chambers had a prior relationship with the individual.

According to county jail records, Chambers faces four criminal counts:
* One count of rape
* Two counts of aggravated child molestation
* One count of enticing a child for indecent purposes

Sandersville Fire Chief Jason Boatwright stated that Chambers was dismissed from the fire department on May 19, 2026.

Chambers had previously been recognized by the agency, having been named the department’s firefighter of the year in 2022, according to a past social media post by the Sandersville Fire Department.
