COLUMBIA, South Carolina — A Richland County sheriff’s deputy was terminated from his position following his arrest for driving under the influence late Wednesday evening.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on 35-year-old Spencer Link just after 10:00 p.m. on Bluff Road. According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, state troopers determined that Link was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and subsequently placed him under arrest.
Sheriff’s department officials clarified that Link was off duty and operating his personal vehicle at the time of the incident. Following the arrest, the department immediately suspended Link and subsequently terminated his employment.
Link had been employed with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department since May 6, 2024. County records indicate that he has since been released from custody on bond.
