San Rafael High School Teacher Kevin Eric Allen Arrested Following Investigation Into Inappropriate Relationship With Minor Student

SAN RAFAEL, California — A Marin County high school teacher was taken into custody on Wednesday after authorities alleged he attempted to arrange a meeting with a minor for sexual purposes. Kevin Eric Allen, a 35-year-old resident of San Rafael, California, was arrested at his home by local law enforcement officers. The San Rafael Police Department noted that Allen was already on probation at the time of his arrest, though further details regarding his probation status were not disclosed.

The criminal investigation commenced on April 14 when administrators at San Rafael High School alerted the police department regarding allegations that Allen was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a minor student. In response to the allegations, school district officials immediately placed Allen on suspension and initiated an internal inquiry while assisting law enforcement with their investigation. According to Allen’s public professional profile, he has been employed as a drama and theater teacher for San Rafael City Schools since May 2017.

San Rafael City Schools Superintendent Carmen Ghysels addressed the situation in a written correspondence sent to parents, characterizing the allegations as deeply disturbing. Ghysels stated that the school district holds all personnel to the highest standards of behavior to protect the well-being of students, adding that the administration takes every report of employee misconduct seriously and remains dedicated to conducting thorough reviews and implementing necessary actions.

Before executing the arrest, detectives conducted interviews with the victim as well as multiple witnesses. Law enforcement officials also secured and executed search warrants to examine communication records between Allen and the minor student, which subsequently provided the basis for the detectives to take the teacher into custody at his residence.
