Former Police Officer Jailed for Double Murder Charged With Killing His Mother by Poisoning

BERELDANGE, Luxembourg — A former police officer who is currently serving a life sentence for the poisoning deaths of his sister and brother-in-law has been charged with murdering his mother in a similar manner more than ten years ago, authorities announced.

The criminal charges relate to the death of a 56-year-old woman whose body was found in her bathtub in Bereldange in August 2014. The case had previously been cold until new developments prompted a fresh review.

The public prosecutor’s office issued a statement on Thursday explaining that the investigation was formally reopened in 2025 under the direction of an investigating judge. The renewed inquiry yielded serious and consistent evidence, which justified bringing the deceased woman’s son before an investigating magistrate recently.

According to prosecutors, the suspect has now been formally charged with premeditated parricide by poisoning.

The defendant was previously convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2020. That conviction stemmed from the 2016 murders of his sister and brother-in-law, both of whom died from poisoning.
