SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A North East Independent School District elementary school principal has resigned from her position after being arrested on a domestic violence charge over the weekend, district officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Amy Jane Reasons Copes, 52, was arrested following a weekend family dispute, according to a letter sent to families by Cibolo Green Elementary School Assistant Principal Shaunte Gomez. Gomez noted that the incident had nothing to do with the school.
Records indicate that Reasons Copes was booked Sunday into the Bexar County jail. She faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
Following her arrest, Reasons Copes resigned Tuesday evening and is no longer employed by the school district. School district officials stated that they intend to cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities during the ongoing legal process.
To manage the transition, former Cibolo Green principal Adam Schwab will step in to serve as the substitute principal for the final week of the school year.
Resources and support services remain available for individuals or families experiencing domestic violence. Local media outlets maintain dedicated resource listings to help community members identify types of abuse and access support.
