CANYON, Texas — A Canyon Independent School District employee was taken into custody over the weekend following an incident that led to a driving while intoxicated charge.
The Canyon Police Department confirmed that Raymond Angel Baca, who works as a coach for the school district, was arrested on May 23.
According to law enforcement officials, the sequence of events began when police officers pulled over a vehicle on the 3500 block of 4th Avenue. The traffic stop was initiated after officers observed the vehicle failing to maintain a single lane of traffic.
During the interaction, officers noted that Baca exhibited signs of intoxication. Following the initial observation, a blood test was administered to determine his level of impairment. Baca was subsequently transported and booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Representatives from the Canyon Independent School District acknowledged that they are aware of the situation involving their employee. School district officials specified that the incident took place off campus and occurred outside of regular school operating hours.
District administrators added that they will withhold any additional statements or comments regarding the arrest, citing compliance with personnel privacy laws.
