Fort Worth ISD Reassigns New Western Hills High School Principal Shayma Alzubi Following Investigation Into Past Social Media Posts

FORT WORTH, Texas — A newly designated high school principal within the Fort Worth Independent School District has been removed from her position and reassigned following a review of her previous social media activity.

Shayma Alzubi, who was appointed as the new leader of Western Hills High School last week, is currently the subject of an internal district investigation. Alzubi has worked within the Fort Worth Independent School District for more than 10 years, having most recently filled the role of assistant principal at Southwest High School. According to school district officials, administrators were alerted to multiple controversial online posts made by Alzubi on Tuesday, which prompted the inquiry and her subsequent reassignment until the investigation concludes.

The online activity under review includes a publication from January that appears to advocate for Sharia Law by drawing comparisons to biblical principles and other religious ethics. Additional screenshots provided to district officials show an August 2021 repost backing COVID-19 mask mandates within the school system, an image featuring Alzubi alongside a Black Lives Matter banner, and a photograph accompanied by a caption stating that Jerusalem serves as the capital of Palestine.

District administrators released a statement to FOX News Digital noting that the publications fail to comply with the school system’s established social media policies and expectations for employees. The district emphasized that leadership, teachers, and staff members are prohibited from introducing personal political viewpoints into learning environments. Officials added that the publicly funded institution serves a diverse population of civically engaged families and must remain dedicated to delivering top-tier education to every student.

Conversely, advocates for Alzubi are demanding her swift return to the principal position, asserting that the administrative action constitutes religious discrimination. Supporters stated in a news release that Alzubi successfully navigated the district’s interviewing procedures and was chosen as the top candidate due to her background and professional capabilities. According to the advocacy group, right-wing bloggers began lodging complaints about the appointment of a visibly Muslim woman immediately after the district made the hiring announcement. The supporting organization has scheduled a press conference for Thursday at the Islamic Unity Center in Fort Worth.
