NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — A Hammond Police Department officer was taken into custody on Wednesday following an investigation into alleged cockfighting activities, according to law enforcement authorities.
The arrest was executed on May 27 by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, and Homeland Security Investigations.
Hammond Police Department officials stated that federal and state investigators held warrants for the officer’s arrest. The charges connected to the alleged cockfighting incidents include the misuse of state computer systems and retaliation against a witness.
Following the arrest, the officer was placed on administrative leave. Department officials noted that the officer will now go through the standard Civil Service process.
The identity and photographs of the officer are currently being withheld. Hammond Police officials stated they cannot release this information because the matter involves an ongoing federal investigation.
Inquiries seeking additional details have been directed to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.
