CLOVER, South Carolina — A Clover police officer was taken into custody on Thursday after she reportedly threatened her boyfriend with a firearm during an altercation, according to the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the incident on Thursday, May 28, at approximately 5:30 p.m. Law enforcement officials stated that Mara Anderton, who serves as an officer with the Clover Police Department, allegedly used a firearm to threaten her boyfriend after a dispute took place. It remains unclear what specific circumstances precipitated the altercation.
Anderton has been formally charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and resisting arrest.
Following the incident, the Clover Police Department placed Anderton on unpaid administrative leave until further notice.
Clover Police Chief Randy Grice released a statement noting that the agency holds all of its officers to a high standard and that incidents of this nature will not be tolerated. The police chief added that an internal administrative investigation remains ongoing at this time.
