Boyne Valley Township Volunteer Firefighter Charged in Connection With Fatal December Crash

CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Michigan — A volunteer firefighter with the Boyne Valley Township Fire Department is facing multiple criminal charges following a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred late last year, according to local court documents.

The legal charges stem from an incident last December on highway M-75. Court records indicate that Joshua Elzinga struck a vehicle as it was pulling out from a Tractor Supply company location. The driver of the impacted vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was killed in the collision.

Following the investigation into the crash, prosecutors filed formal charges against Elzinga. He is currently facing one count of reckless driving causing death, alongside one count of a moving violation causing death.
