Miami Fire Rescue Captain Maximo Vasquez Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges Following Alleged Assault

MIAMI, Florida — A veteran captain with Miami Fire Rescue is back in custody after being arrested on multiple domestic violence charges over the weekend, according to Miami-Dade jail records.

Maximo Vasquez, 43, was taken into custody on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Jail records indicate he faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, strongarm robbery, and false imprisonment.

An arrest report states that the incident began Saturday morning when Vasquez called his wife while she was driving to the gym and demanded that she return to their home. Upon her arrival, Vasquez reportedly walked out of the residence carrying a hammer. The report notes he approached her in an aggressive manner and threatened to shatter her car windows if she refused to go inside.

The victim stated that Vasquez appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, causing her to remain inside the vehicle out of fear. According to the report, Vasquez briefly went back inside the house and returned to place screws beneath her vehicle’s tires to prevent her from driving away.

When the victim exited the car to remove the screws, Vasquez allegedly blocked her from re-entering the vehicle. The report states he grabbed her by the wrists and forcibly confiscated both of her mobile phones.

Once inside the residence, Vasquez allegedly pushed the victim onto a sofa, struck her face multiple times, headbutted her, and hit her in the head with his phone while shouting profanities and tearing her clothing. The victim attempted to flee the house, but Vasquez reportedly grabbed her by the hair and forcibly pushed her back inside.

Deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence shortly after receiving an anonymous 911 call reporting a disturbance. Although the woman initially informed deputies that nothing was wrong and that she did not require help, she later went to a hospital due to a severe headache caused by the alleged physical altercation. Deputies met with her at the medical facility to document the allegations before securing an arrest warrant for Vasquez.

A spokesperson for the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue issued a statement on Monday acknowledging the arrest of the 16-year veteran firefighter by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The department stated it has not yet established contact with Vasquez but will launch a comprehensive internal investigation according to departmental policies once contact is made.

Vasquez appeared before a judge on Monday, June 1, 2026, and was granted pre-trial release with an alternative bond of $17,500. The judge ordered Vasquez to have no contact with the victim and prohibited him from possessing firearms or any other weapons.

This marks the second arrest for Vasquez in recent years. In June 2025, he was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer or firefighter, disorderly conduct, resisting an officer without violence, and misuse of 911. That previous incident occurred when Miami-Dade deputies responded to a location where Vasquez was reportedly shouting and irate while trying to report his wife missing. During that encounter, Vasquez allegedly threw a case card at a deputy before being taken into custody after a physical struggle. Court records show that the 2025 case was dismissed in March 2026 after Vasquez finished an advocate program.
