Irving Firefighter Arrested After Bringing Rifle to North Texas Community Pool Dispute

MELISSA, Texas — An Irving firefighter has been arrested following a confrontation at a neighborhood pool party in North Texas where he allegedly brought a rifle to a community swimming pool during an argument involving children.

The Melissa Police Department arrested 44-year-old Kevin Brown following the incident, which took place on Friday during a birthday celebration in the Meadow Run neighborhood. Cellular phone footage of the encounter has since accumulated millions of views online, capturing individuals reacting as children and parents fled the area. Investigators identified Brown, a local resident living near the community facility, as the armed individual in the recording.

According to the arrest affidavit, the altercation initiated when Brown’s wife confronted several children regarding a propped-open pool gate, which led to a verbal dispute between her and the children’s parents. Wade Simpson, a father who arrived at the scene after learning of the disruption, described a chaotic environment involving approximately eight people shouting. The affidavit notes that Brown’s wife placed a call to him during the argument, prompting the firefighter to walk down to the pool area carrying an AR-platform rifle.

Melissa police initially booked Brown on a Class C misdemeanor charge. Following a review of the case reports, authorities upgraded the charge to a Class B misdemeanor for displaying a firearm in a public place. Jail records indicate that Brown was taken into custody on Tuesday and remained held in the Collin County jail as of Wednesday evening. Law enforcement officials stated that the event is not being investigated as a hate crime.

The incident has prompted reactions from both the firefighter’s employer and local residents. The Irving Fire Department announced that Brown has been placed on administrative leave while the agency conducts an internal investigation, stating that community trust is a critical standard they will not compromise on. Meanwhile, Simpson addressed the Melissa City Council on Tuesday evening to voice concerns regarding the incident and broader community dynamics, stating that the event would have a lasting emotional impact on the children who witnessed it.
