MOBILE, Alabama — A former sergeant with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has been indicted on additional counts of theft, the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
A Mobile County grand jury returned a three-count indictment against Daniel Holifield, charging him with first-degree theft of property by deception. District Attorney Keith Blackwood revealed the new charges, which add to the legal proceedings already active against the former law enforcement officer.
Holifield was previously indicted by a Mobile County grand jury in August 2025 on 13 counts of theft of property and possession of forged instruments. Court officials stated that those initial charges remain pending in Mobile County District Court.
In a public statement, Blackwood emphasized that individuals entrusted with serving the public are expected to uphold the law and act with integrity. He characterized the allegations against Holifield as a serious breach of public trust, adding that his office will continue to investigate where the evidence leads and seek strict accountability for any criminal conduct.
The ongoing prosecutions follow separate accusations stemming from 2023, when Holifield was accused of falsely logging more than 2,600 hours of overtime. That alleged falsification resulted in him illicitly earning nearly $149,000.
Holifield is scheduled to be formally arraigned on the new indictment in Mobile County Circuit Court in the coming weeks.
