SHREVEPORT, Louisiana — A Haughton firefighter was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon following a domestic altercation involving a handgun, according to the Caddo Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on May 31, 2026, at approximately 1:48 p.m. at a residence located in the 8800 block of Old Mooringsport Road.
Authorities reported that Jesse Nitz, 20, went to the home to pick up his girlfriend. While at the property, Nitz became involved in a verbal dispute with the woman’s father. During the altercation, Nitz allegedly pulled a handgun from a waistband holster and pointed it at the father.
According to investigators, the victim attempted to disarm Nitz, resulting in a physical struggle over the firearm. The victim’s adult son intervened to help subdue Nitz and secure the handgun. The two men successfully detained Nitz until sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene.
Nitz, who is employed as a firefighter in Haughton, was arrested without further incident. He was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.
The Caddo Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
