HOUSTON, Texas — A veteran Houston firefighter with more than two decades of service was arrested over the weekend on a felony child grooming charge stemming from an investigation in Austin County, according to court records and fire department officials.
Firefighter Jason Gaines was taken into custody on Saturday at Fire Station 90, located in the Addicks area of Houston, Senior Captain Raul Reyes confirmed. Following his arrest, Gaines was suspended from the Houston Fire Department pending the results of an investigation. The specific circumstances surrounding the allegations against him have not yet been released.
Austin County court records indicate that a grand jury filed a felony indictment against Gaines on Wednesday, May 27. As of Tuesday morning, June 2, no defense attorney was listed in court documents as representing him.
Gaines is scheduled to appear in court for his formal arraignment on Tuesday, June 16.
