TARBORO, North Carolina — Edgecombe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a middle school employee accused of renting a hotel room in her name where four unsupervised children were living.
Fantasia Burgers works as a teacher at W. A. Pattillo Middle School, located in Tarboro. According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged criminal activity did not take place on school property.
Burgers, 30, of Tarboro, faces multiple criminal charges, including four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of failure to report abuse or neglect.
Law enforcement officials allege that Burgers allowed four minors to reside in the hotel room. The ages of the children involved in the investigation are 1, 15, and two children who are 13 years old.
Following her arrest, authorities held Burgers on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Representatives from the sheriff’s office noted that the administration at W. A. Pattillo Middle School and Edgecombe County Public Schools provided complete cooperation throughout the investigation.
