LA PRYOR, Texas — The former superintendent of the La Pryor Independent School District was arrested on Wednesday following a grand jury indictment linked to an alleged assault, authorities confirmed.
The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office announced that William Arevalo faces a charge of injury to a child. The arrest follows an investigation that was launched while Arevalo was actively serving as the district’s superintendent.
School officials placed Arevalo on paid administrative leave in February 2025. According to an incident report obtained by KSAT 12, the allegations stem from an episode where Arevalo reportedly grabbed a 6-year-old girl by her arm and dragged her inside a classroom.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation into the matter. Detectives subsequently presented the case to a Zavala County grand jury, which returned a true bill of indictment against Arevalo, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.
Legal proceedings will move forward in the local court system, with the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office handling the prosecution of the case.
